How fun - 12 Easy Ways to Spice Up Your Life Running

Running is great. I would recommend it to anyone, not genetically prone to get hurt as part of a healthy lifestyle. While familiarity breed contempt for the people can, the same may be true in a life running. By nature they are running requires repetition. Repetition, as we know breeds familiarity and familiarity breeds ... Now you know what comes next.

Let's face it! Running the same course or are bored by routine week after week!

Fortunately, there areeasy ways to make your life is running. Here are some suggestions ...

Set a goal-I will create a wider plan to make searches much more interesting, but maybe it's just me. After all, you try for a game and commit to workout to it. Racing can be very addictive and the social aspect is fantastic.

Run-Off gyms and treadmills can be boring. I personally have never been a big fan of gyms. I would choose any day over a distanceWorkout in the gym. This does not mean that gyms have their place for most people (I admit, a hard-core fans are running). If the treadmill at the gym is part of their normal routine, then mix and travel outside of the gym is an excellent way things taste!

Run at different times of the day: If you run at night, in the morning, instead of running, or if you run in the morning, try an evening ride. Variety is the point of living andsimply moving things around often be a great cure for boredom.

Try a different way, though not living in the vicinity of interesting courses, change the route can be interesting. If you live in the area to be done right, trail running is a great way to add more spice to the long runs. You could try a different route every day for a week and see what is coming, just be sure not to miss.

Tip: Maybe you want before you invest in a wide range GPS Tracking WatchesFirst Steps adventurous. The best watches the GPS allows you to enter your starting position, so that in the unlikely event that you lost, you can drive your clock back where you started. Our site has information about GPS tracking watches, if you want to learn more.

Listening to music or books on a music player or MP3 audio books can be a good way, your mind to take the effort and repeatability of your race. Just be sure not entirelythe rest of the area. Your safety is always fundamental and ears with thorns, it is often easy, other noises, such as to ignore the approaching traffic, but with good common sense, adrenaline inducing music, in particular, can be a good opportunity for you in a positive mood being placed.

Run is an aerobics session Aerobics "speed play Sweden. It's random outbursts of fast running followed by periods of recovery. Try to work fast running some random racing, but surely to warmwith a slow run for at least 10 minutes before trying this.

If you have other sports in a rut, try another sport or activity. Some ideas: Touch Football, football, cycling, climbing, hiking. When trying a new activity is not crazy! A new activity will work different muscle groups of your body and push too hard too soon will increase the risk of injury.

Take A Break-The key to improving fitness is) trying to put your body, and b) rest as stressedyour body time to recover and become stronger. When you run all the time you could be missing a part b) out of the equation, inevitably, you get tired, flat, banal injured or worse!

Contrary to what they say is a break once in a while not a bad thing. Indeed, in the long term, regular day are recommended for all but the most serious runners.

Do not run through pain or discomfort when you are in pain or less comfortable, tooOften, it is your body trying to tell you something (usually to tell what the body is trying to follow the example of

Stop hurting me stupid! Running through the pain will not do much to improve your motivation. Take a break to recover and rest, then when you are ready to begin again. You'll feel much better!

Read a magazine Grab a magazine like Runner's World. They have a lot of motivation articles and tips. Often when you're done reading, you feel pumped and inspired tonew world record or something going on! (We can dream anyway, and if motivated to do is, deception is a good thing!)

Challenge yourself-If you use only a short distance each time, set a target to run on!
Setting ambitious targets also obtained, instead of breaking through your barriers, as you are boring. Challenging yourself, you'll be fitter and stronger both physically and mentally. Even if you make onevery short distance, can not be accepted in sufficient time to kick the endorphins endorphins are drugs related to "runner's high" that makes you feel good.

In a group of run-If you convince others to run with you, can be much more fun than running alone. It's also refreshing to meet other like-minded people to improve fitness and health. If your friends are not interested in a candidate shall be considered an active running group in your area. If youfear that you relax too slowly, you are. There are many groups of runners, the only one for fun and pure joy to stretch their legs, in fact, I suspect that most of the groups to be quite relaxed and friendly there.

If this did not work for you, you can not risk being a runner. Do not be unhappy to find something you like and you go forward.

Jogger and Runner Safety

Joggers and cyclists beware! There are many things that work for you look for in a street or sidewalk. Loose grates, road debris, cracked sidewalks and garbage are all tripping hazards. driver support from driveways may never see until it is too late. A rabid dog can jump out of nowhere and approach you. Watch ice or mud on your feet and look out for low branches. Remember that are primarily responsible for their own safety.

Be careful at all times and keepyour mind on the most important thing you do: share the road or sidewalk with other people, vehicles or animals. This directive may seem simple enough. But how often you see runners and joggers on the road ways to listen to the radio or talking on cell phones and iPods? It 'true that these activities are not only more fun, but makes it even more dangerous. After all, if you get caught in a telephone conversation, or you'reListen to your favorite pop song, you can not walk on his work, a center, a hotel safe.

Some "rules of the road" for runners and joggers are the law in many states. Others are just common sense.

Run on sidewalks where available and accessible.
Keep the far left side of the road and face oncoming traffic when you jog or run on the same road, the law of your country can apply. Regardless, you do not have eyes in the back.
Visibility is importantYour safety. Jog in broad daylight, if possible. Wearing brightly colored clothes to help in the background. Jogging in the morning or evening twilight, when you can be less obvious, especially problematic, although there may be more convenient jog just before or after work. During the twilight it is difficult for drivers to see you
Night Time is running involves many risks and are best avoided entirely. If you need to shoot at night, wear bright orLuminescent hands clothing for better visibility. Shoes and jackets / shirts with reflective strips are a good choice. Some riders wear an armband with a flashing light. With fewer people on the streets at night, could be vulnerable to attack or assault. Make sure a friend or relative know the route you take and when you return. Make sure you change your route each day.
Motor vehicles "rule"! Never forget. If you collide a car or truck and a man, there is no competition. ThoughYou think you have the right of way, the road for cars and trucks. Stop or step aside if necessary to ensure their own safety. Enter your part to prevent an accident, pedestrian

Keep your ears tuned to the sound of the street around you was a dog barking, car horns or the rumble of an engine. These noises can report potential troublemakers. Do not use headphones or cell phone when you run or jog. You can choose from hearing sounds that I warn you, it would preventDanger ahead. If you need to lower the volume as much as possible.
can cross the street to be dangerous undertaking. Do you remember the rules you learned as a child. Before entering the street, look left, right, left, and again. As you go across the street, look right again before the implementation of the right-lane vehicle to power. Vehicles turning a corner, or exiting a driveway can only have entered the path towards you. They want to knowwhere they are.
Did you ever travel abroad? Plan when you go jogging or running? If so, the local "rules of the road." This rule, which I mentioned in the previous paragraph is that they look cross the road first left, "he says. When traveling in countries like the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Japan and Australia, where motorists drive on the side your left, you must change your mindset. It '"first look to the right! This can be very difficultRule to remember, because Americans "first look" connect automatically. Maybe you remember watching "first right" as the first two or three intersections when you visit London traveling cross, but then your mind for a moment. At the next one is automatically "first" to look to the left, only to step in front of a vehicle from the right.
No matter if you walk into a country where motorists drive on the right or the left side of the road. IfYou run the streets or jog facing traffic. Be aware, that is chaotic in some countries, traffic in urban areas. Drivers routinely ignore pedestrians and their safety. If traveling abroad, you just run off road. And 'exhilarating and safe, in public parks or skiing.
Do not become a statistic of crime. Leave your jewelry and money at home. If you need to carry only a few dollars to make money. It's usually a good idea to identify akeys cell phone, and home or car with you in an emergency. A whistle or personal alarm can provide additional protection.

Jogging or running in the company of others. If your dog is large enough to keep up with you, let him take you there. Run to a safe area. Avoid areas filled or local crime ridden with derelict buildings or abandoned property. Cities and communities that are dense forests with roads that are poorly lit or isolated, can also be dangerous. If youThey believe that they occupied the head to the nearest public place or building or residence. Do not take risks.

Running or jogging outdoors is good for you. First, there is fresh air can be enjoyed after a day in an office or factory. Running can burn calories, help you lose or maintain your weight. The exercise can also improve your overall health by bone loss and control of hypertension. So let's go! Remember to make your race a safe!

How to Use Your Mind Relax during an endurance race

Have you ever run or walk a marathon, half marathon or other endurance events and be so tense that the stride length became shorter than normal?

This reduction step comes from being too tense. It can be very frustrating, because it is necessary to increase the cadence to keep the same pace. But you can increase the frequency of tension which can lead to a further reduction of stride length.

Instead you have never seen a track - for example, a sprint of 100 meters -in slow motion and I noticed this about the winner of the race?

The face of the winner was relaxed and smooth, almost floating in the wind.
The winner was the head upright and relaxed, without tension in the neck - at least until maybe the end of the race when the winner was, not in its neck to reach the finish line.
The winners were the hands relaxed, not tense or strained.

If this level of relaxation is important for the elite sprinter who rides for under tenSeconds, then it should make sense that this degree of relaxation - in other words, the absence of tension - it is important for endurance runners and walkers, the race for up to several hours at a time.

A 1999 study of sub-elite endurance runners from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, published in Medicine and Science of sports and concluded that these runners could run its economy by using relaxation techniques to improve theBiofeedback heart rate, VO2 and ventilation - all running on VO2submax.

"Running Economy" how oxygen is required to run a certain speed measured by a decrease in oxygen demand shows a growing economy running.
"Heart rate (HR) in beats per minute is how to obtain and measure, the race in just a few: wearing a heart - heart rate monitor (like a belt around your chest, wirelesscommunicates with a wrist unit that shows the heart rate) or by counting the number of beats in six seconds in the pulse point on the wrist and then multiplied by ten.
"Ventilation" - also - known by physiologists as "ventilatory volume (VE) which actually refers to an air exchange rate, usually measured in liters per minute, and that is the product of" ventilatory frequency (VF), measured measured in breaths per minute and tidal volume (TV), usually in liters per Breath.
"VO2 is a measure of volume of oxygen through the body in a minute.
'VO2max' refers to the maximum volume of oxygen per minute at maximum stress (final practice) can be consumed, and can be increased with the right kind of training.
"VO2submax" refers to a rate of oxygen consumption, less than VO2max.

Since the study annexed to New Zealand on a treadmill in a laboratory guide with tools to measure it has been made> Heart rate, etc., as you can apply the results of this study Sprinter - as well as your slow motion analysis - for their race or walk down the street or trail in a long distance race?

First, recognize that you are using your mind to relax with a long distance race.

Second, consider that attention to certain physiological factors that give the characteristic of your level of relaxation:

Heartbeat

Why run slow?

Running fast is the dream and aspiration of most runners. It means different things to different people, but it is safe to say that many riders are so happy to sleep when dreaming run slowly. But you can run slow to be used as a tool to help us run faster when it counts.

running fast is a very expensive affair. Since they are flying forward at an incredible pace, everything we use to push us is done with us. We bring all theseResources in finite quantities. We can only afford to run quickly for a limited period of time before something starts to run out. These resources are the three most important fuel, physiology and psychology.

As we quickly run the fuel saved and transformed into our muscles. This energy is heavily taxed by the fast running in the same way that the fuel burns faster acceleration in the motor car. Fast is not effective in this regard. We would be betterwas running when you run for the conservation of fuel. For increasing speed, we have less kilojoules per track. running fast is running, in a sense expensive fuel.

As we run fast we use our muscles strong and flexible to begin there in the air for amazing distances, even more than our own height, about 180 times a minute. This costs a packet is waiting like a man. Wear of our muscles and ligaments is immense, and directly to the distance, we spring (there are speedRunning). Even the bits that make up the muscles for his work as the bones and joints, and a hiding place, as they are forced to resist the power of our muscles and weight of our bodies also press upon them the strength and the corresponding ground push up fast running running expensive in a physiological sense.

As we run fast we use to realize our mental performance and keep the pace fast. We must deny our natural instincts to slow down, it hurts. UsWe need to talk about persistent symptoms, a certain amount of pain and sometimes oxygen, water and fuel debts. Our body says slow down, but our mind is composed and forces us to continue to take a. We can not do so indefinitely. There is a limit to our mental strength. At one point, to overcome our bodies and our minds, we slow down, but until that happens we are in a battle. Fast running is costly in the psychological sense.

We really want to run faster than weconsiderable cost, and in preparation, we ensure that we can afford. In a sense, is like a bank account. With a bank account if you spend more than we filed we received a letter from the bank and our equipment will be withdrawn. With our course, the letter from the bank may be a violation of any type to take and lose the waiver, our ability to run as we would like. Sure makes us ask: "How can we prevent this?" How can weMake sure that the resources we have in stock, so that we move quickly if we want?

One of the secrets to make sure we can run fast to run slowly.

"Running can help slow to run fast?" I thought they were opposites, "I heard you. But here's the truth. It is not trendy or cool. It is not salable or sexy, but if we run too fast then slow implementation has certainly a place in our training.

Let me explain ...

Slow was running a bad name by dateEnforcement community for some time. People are often defined either as guides or jogging (with runners and joggers, as enlightened, those who are not runners). But in reality, each runner should be trained to slow running or jogging component of her.

Running slowly is a long list of performance without the cost, which can be seen associated with fast running. We know that works at lower speeds isproductive in terms of weight loss maintenance and running faster. Slow going very well for the development of stocks of capillary blood, fresh blood to the muscles will be more efficient if you can run fast. low speed helps us determine glycogen efficiency for the second. speed is low stress resistance of our kind, strengthens bones, joints, ligaments, and are preparing to tear the RIP world of bust faster execution. SlowlyRunning training of our psychological fortitude, preparing ahead of us on the fast running. It goes on and on. Slow race has a stack of services without the cost of running fast. Your bank manager would love to hear that ... would call savings

If you run more slowly, then there will only ever be able to walk slowly, but if it runs slow as a springboard to prepare for the rest of our training racier then we can expect that help us with a great deal.

Whenrun too slowly?

The three times that most critics are going to slow down as follows:

1) If we build a base for our training. If we have a new program or season, or when you start recovering from an injury, you have done well to build a base of slowly progressive. This means building the foundations for a house or structure for an essay. If we build the basic right we expect a very good result. Otherwise, we can look forward for an injury or other mishap. SlowlyThe execution should be the bread and butter every stage of a basic training program. I am now back to full running after an injury and will do my slow running base after more than 500 km are finished running very slow. This period is a bit 'boring and frustrating, but it's the best thing to do to increase your chances of staying injury free can. I believe in the benefits of running slow, so I do.

2) In your weekly throughout the season, you must ensure thatThere is much more slow. In this case, running slowly continue to get the benefits of your base is to complete your workouts and more targeted work, as an active recovery session, which is preparing to run faster. Often most of my training is done at a pace that I describe as slow. This allows me to actually use my sessions and adapt faster faster.

3) After an event, or during low-speed recovery of injury is important to alwaysBack to normal operations as soon as possible. Slow ride, a form of gentle active agent against all types of wear. It 's the ideal solution because it can make blood flow to the muscles, without contributing to increased load or damage significantly. If you have a choice between lying on the couch or walk slow, walk, take slow, because it will work better. It helps to heal the aching body, and also keeps the mind in balance, too.

Slow-running holes frustrates meme is embarrassing and sometimes after me, but I know why I can not run fast and as I work, it's worth, is that it helps yourself.

Slow run ... It is not sexy, but it works

Polar RS800CX Multi Sport Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G3 GPS Sensor W.I.N.D.

Polar RS800CX Multi Sport Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G3 GPS Sensor W.I.N.D. Review

I purchased this watch from Amazon in November and to date have run over 300 miles using it to track my training for a marathon in May 2010. I have no major problems with it or the software program that comes with it. Together with the S3 shoe pod I get all the information I need. I get back from a run, upload the data to my computer and can then add the data to my running blog.
Make sure you have a good supply of batteries for the GPS. It is an AA type and the GPS just takes one. I use the rechargeables and the battery lasts for about 4 decent runs in the 5 to 10 mile region. The buttons on the watch do take some time to get used to. It is easy to push the big red one at the end of a run but that is just lap time. You need to push the bottom right one, then push the left lower one to select exit. Then push the red one.
(Although not part of this particuar package the shoe pod uses a watch type battery and I have just changed one after 300 miles.)
I am very careful after each run to take the HRM sensor off the wear link to avoid draining that battery.
The watch face can be hard to see in some light conditions.
Bottom line is I am very pleased with my Polar RS800cx.

Polar RS800CX Multi Sport Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G3 GPS Sensor W.I.N.D. Feature

  • Sophisticated training watch designed for dedicated, multi-sport endurance athletes
  • Integrated Polar ProTrainer 5 software lets you create custom GPS routes and maps

Polar RS800CX Multi Sport Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G3 GPS Sensor W.I.N.D. Overview

Now Introduces mapping / route positioning capabilities with the G3 GPS Sensor, enabling users to download their route information to their PC after the training session. RS800CX G3 MULTI - Complete for the athlete with the multi-sport G3 GPS Sensor (MSRP 9.95)

Polar RS800CX Multi Sport Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G3 GPS Sensor W.I.N.D. Specifications

Are you serious about your athletic training? If so, turn to the Polar RS800CX multi-sport heart rate monitor watch, which offers a complete system for planning, monitoring, and analyzing every part of your training. This particular version of the RS800CX is equipped with a host of valuable tools, including a built-in altimeter, a WearLink W.I.N.D. heart rate transmitter with a soft textile chest strap, a copy of Polar ProTrainer 5 software, and a G3 GPS sensor that helps you measure your speed and distance in a variety of sports. As a result, there's no better way for athletes to create a comprehensive training workout that's efficient and effective. Even better, the watch lets you combine training sessions from different sports into a single file, so you can integrate your running, cycling, hiking, rowing, and skiing sessions without missing a beat. It's the ultimate multi-sport training watch.

The RS800CX watch is the ultimate training computer for multi-sport athletes.
As a heart rate monitor, the RS800CX works by first checking your daily condition, and then guiding you to the ideal training intensity for your age and fitness level. Knowing your heart rate not only helps you reach your personal fitness goal, but also improves your physical condition in general, as it's vitally important to train at the appropriate intensity level. If you exercise too hard, you may quit before you reach the real benefit, but if you work out too leisurely, you'll struggle to lose weight at all. The RS800CX helps overcome these problems by encouraging you to map out a complete fitness routine. The watch also displays heart rate info in several ways, including as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, as beats per minute, and within a graphical target zone indicator. And should your heart rate exceed or dip below your target zone, the RS800CX will sound an alarm that helps you return to form.

The RS800CX also offers a variety of proprietary Polar functions. The ZonePointer, for example, is an audible and visual feature on the display of your watch that shows you where your current heart rate sits within your target heart rate zone. The Polar OwnZone mode, meanwhile, provides a customized target zone for individual exercise sessions. Finally, the Polar OwnCal mode shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session, as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can also set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure, helping you achieve both short-term and long-term goals. Other proprietary Polar functions include a Polar fitness test that measures your aerobic fitness at rest in just five minutes; a ZoneLock button that activates a target zone alarm while exercising; and an OwnOptimizer mode designed to keep you from undertraining or overtraining--a must when trying to improve overall performance.

The watch comes with the multi-sport G3 GPS sensor.
Serious athletes will appreciate in the built-in altimeter, which measures your altitude, cumulative ascent, and cumulative descent. It's the Polar ProTrainer 5 software, however, that really helps the watch stand out. You can use the Polar ProTrainer 5 to plan your workout in advance--including creating maps and routes in conjunction with the G3 GPS sensor--and then transfer the settings to the RS800CX watch. Then, after training, you can analyze the results using versatile, customizable graphs to ensure a deeper understanding of your speed, exertion level, and distance. The software also includes a custom calendar that functions as a complete training log. Each time you transfer an exercise file to the program, the calendar automatically creates a diary entry with all your training data--a terrific option for athletes who want to monitor their workouts over the long term. The software even lets you export your GPS mapping routes to Google Earth, so you can view your exact training route or calculate mileage on the spot.

This version of the RS800CX comes with the G3 GPS sensor, which measures your speed and distance during nontraditional sports, such as canoeing, mountain biking, rowing, or Nordic skiing. The highly sensitive SIRF III GPS system provides highly reliable GPS reception even in densely wooded areas, so you can easily measure your key data across land, snow, and water. The sensor is particularly valuable for athletes who want to map out a specific route when training in the mountains or along the water. The G3 communicates this speed and distance data directly to the RS800CX, which analyzes the data in a variety of ways so that you can hone your long-term performance. The RS800CX also supports other optional W.I.N.D. sensors (sold separately) that are custom built for various training needs. The S3 Stride Sensor, for example, measures every stride you take while running, helping you perform better in competitive situations, while the CS Speed Sensor accurately measures your cycling speed and distance. With the purchase of all three W.I.N.D. sensors, your RS800CX will become an extremely versatile multi-sport training computer.

Other watch features include several recording options to help track your heart rate, calorie expenditure, distance, and more and save it in an exercise file (with 99 total files); water resistance to 50 meters; a Polar WebLink connection for transferring exercise data from your wrist unit to a computer; a 12/24-hour clock with a day/week indicator; a built-in backlight; an alarm with a snooze; and a low battery indicator. Sporting an attractive silver housing, the watch carries a two-year warranty.

Manufacturer's Warranty
The original purchaser of this heart rate monitor is backed by a limited warranty that states that this product that the product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase.

About Polar
The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)

Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) Review

This is our secind Garmin and we are satisfied customers. Only two caveats. First is that the Garmin tells you to "turn left" a little later than it should. It would be great if the Garmin spoke the turn you ned to make a little sooner. Second caveat is that is always a good idea to mapquest your route b4 u go. If u prefer to drive on main highways and u dont mind travelling a little out of your way to stay on the main highways than u need to map the route beforehand to make sure the garmin is not taking you on back roads, just to save a few minutes. Coolest part is that you can plug ur Garmin into your PC and then go on Google maps and drag all of your favorite destinations into your "points of interest". Never leave home without ur Garmin.
BTW this itme was cheaper on AMAZON than anywhere else that I had seen it.

Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) Feature

  • Factory Refurbished
  • 4.3-inch auto navigator with an anti theft feature
  • HotFix calculates your position faster to get you there quicker
  • Compatible with optional enhanced MSN Direct content
  • JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock, currency converter, calculator and more

Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) Overview

Amazon.com Product Description This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions. Some GPS may contain cosmetic blemishes.

Garmin's nüvi 255W improvesupon its 200-series predecessors by adding top-of-the-line features such as FM traffic updates or MSN Direct content to an entry-level line. But Garmin is also introducing some significant improvements with this new series, like a predictive technology that provides faster satellite lock, a redesigned screen with more information, terrain maps, and an exciting new photo navigation feature. The 255W adds complete maps for North America and Text-to-Speech, so you get turn by turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than merely "turn left in 50 feet"). The 255W also offers a wide 4.3-inch (diagonal) screen that displays 70% more of the road around you.

The nüvi 2x5 models all sport the slim design that Garmin introduced with the 200-series last year, so they all fit comfortably in your pocket or purse, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that makes them convenient for navigation by car or foot. All of the models include useful travel tools like a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more.

Important Product Information: This device features a "screen lock" feature. This is a standard feature on all nüvi 2x5 and 7x5 Garmin units. If you slide the "Power" key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the "Power" key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for "Pedestrian" mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. For more information, see page 5 of the product manual.

New -- HotFix™ – aka: Satellite Ephemeris Data Prediction

hotfix
Your GPS device locks onto transmissions from a dedicated network of Satellites in order to determine its position. Until the device gets a "lock" on three satellites, it can't effectively navigate, so decreasing the time it takes for your device to get "satellite lock" is always a goal of GPS manufacturers. With Garmin's new HotFix technology, your Garmin GPS remembers the position of all satellites it is tracking when you turn it off, and calculates their movements in order to predict where they should be the next time you turn it on. This gives the device an idea of where it should look for satellites, and dramatically decreases the time it takes for your Garmin to get its position and start navigating. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to 3 days after the device was last turned off.

Traffic-Capable for Either FM Traffic or Enhanced MSN Direct Content

MSN Direct Enhanced Traffic and Content

traffic reportsWith an optional receiver, you can access enhanced dynamic content from the MSN Direct service. Check the weather, avoid traffic backups, compare local gas prices, get enhanced movie listings, stock information, news and local events when you travel with your unit. Even plan trips from the convenience of your computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send custom to your nüvi.

Check out a full description of MSN Direct content features, or a coverage map for MSN Direct services.

A 3-month subscription to MSN Direct is included with the receiver. After that, subscription fees are .95 per year, or 9.95 for a lifetime subscription.

FM Traffic
TMC traffic service coverage map
With an optional receiver, you can get alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time.

In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous — there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.

A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with the receiver. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website.

Widescreen -- See More of What's Around

The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views.

The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen

and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen
